Traveling to Chiang Mai

We flew from Bangkok to Chiang Mai today.  Chiang Mai is 450 miles north of Bangkok.  We landed, met our driver and were at our AirBnB by the middle of the afternoon.  We are staying in a Japanese style home with three bedrooms and three bathrooms.  The couple who own it met us and gave us the grand tour.  In the hallway is a collage of photos showing how the home looked when they purchased it and how they have transformed it.  It is truly a relaxing place, a kind of oasis in the city.

Matt and Melissa worked on a list of places for us to visit to text to our driver so he can help us create the best itinerary while we are here.

Chinda and I did our favorite thing — smiling and talking to this little guy.

At 6 p.m. we walked to Huen Muan Jai Restaurant for dinner.  We met Matt’s friends, Claire and Ryan, who will join us for the next several days.  They are from Washington DC and arrived today after a 29 hour trip.  We had a meal of delicious dishes I can’t name, several of them too spicy for me.  But, trust me, I did not starve.  I never walk away from a meal on this trip feeling anything but full.  I even tried the ant larvae….well, one ant larvae.

We bid Claire and Ryan goodnight.  They need to get some sleep. We walked back to our lovely rental and headed for bed ourselves.  Tomorrow we start the grand tour of incredible things to see in this beautiful country.
