Happiness is not a matter of intensity
but of balance, order, rhythm and harmony.

A Rest Day

Our goal for today is to recover from the unexpected adventures of yesterday.  We stayed in our pajamas most of the morning and watched Oscar nominated shows in preparation for the Academy Awards.  We ate leftovers for lunch and then headed back to the rental car agency to exchange our car for one that wouldn't bottom out at every bump.  We had to sit and wait for more cars to be returned before there was one for us.  We drove away in a Nissan Versa that drives like a dream compared to the junker we were given yesterday.

The process of exchanging a car took up quite a bit of time and we got home in time to collect ourselves and turn around and head out for our evening.  We had tickets to see Melissa Villasenor and other comedians at the Largo at Coronet in Hollywood.

The Largo is one of my absolute favorite places to go in LA.  It is such a quirky place.  All tickets are will-call.  You line up at 6 p.m. to show your ID and proof of vaccination.  Then you give your name to the person at the gate and they assign you seats.  Your tickets are a little slip of torn paper that you need to hold onto until you return for the show.  The show starts at 8 p.m.

We had reservations at a nearby restaurant.  We ordered three delicious sides and left feeling delighted with our dinner.  We got back to the Largo about a half hour before the show and found a bench to sit on for people watching.  We tried to figure out if there was anyone else there as old as us.  I think we saw only one person we thought was over 60.

Melissa Villasenor is getting her sea legs back under herself as a standup comedian after 6 1/2 years as a cast member on Saturday Night Live.  Her parents were in the audience and sitting directly behind us.  I found that adorable.  We saw five other comedians.  Justin Martindale, an unknown to me, was fabulous.  Fahim Anwar was good.  Loulie Sanders is from England and looked like she got out of bed and showed up in her pajamas, without combing her hair.  It was part of her persona and she was good.  Brett Goldstein, from Ted Lasso, was excellent.  Beth Stelling was new to me.  I had heard of her but not yet experienced her.  She was funny.  Six great comedians in one night.  It was a fabulous evening.
